Susie and Orbit's daily dribble

Morning Susie!...just seen your offer was accepted - woohooo!!!:D Got everything crossed this one works out for you!

As for the weight loss, or lack of, how are your stress levels? With everything that's happening (job, flat) I wouldn't be surprised if your cortisol was significantly elevated at the moment, and that can definitely affect weight loss.

Possible?

You might be on to something there hun - I am feeling majorly strung out today, with a very churny stomach - while pretending that it's all fine, of course! Time for the St Johns Wort I have in my desk. It doesn't help that I've just had two major performance events land in my lap this morning, with horrendous deadlines. Right now I'd like to just lie on the floor and have Lisa pour voddy down my throat :D

i will just do my best to stay on target over the next few weeks, by which time the job will be sorted (one way or another) and the flat will be a lot closer to completion (hopefully).

Am also going to read the Dr Clarke book and see if the higher carb level might be me - it has some dairy and more non-green veg, and just generally promotes healthy eating/cooking.

Yes it could quite possibly be the stress - and you know you're not giving yourself the best chance with the vino though it's pretty understandable to have had it when your flat offer was accepted! Just remember if it creeps in too often then you might be a bit sensitive to it and your body will be burning off the alcohol before it gets to the carbs. If the maple syrup has maltitol in it (and the one I bought from LCM before does) then that might also be a problem - its the worst of the polyols by all accounts. Try using hermestas liquid to sweeten things instead? Or make some cocoa bark for sweet cravings?

The menus you've posted on here have looked fab so it must be stress and maybe some sneaky little thing like the vino - doesn't stop it being frustrating for you!

Re: Charles Clarke - the diet is quite an old one, I think. I have to say I feel like the reason Atkins has retained constant popularity and Clarke is now quite obscure is that one must work better than the other, although I do think all diets can work if followed correctly. Have you considered doing a higher rung of owl?

WOOHOO on the house front Susie, fantastic news. Everything crossed.

What about the dr. michael and mary eades protein power plan. I think it has more carbs in form of veg and some lc bread etc.?

See my diary re: weight lost this week for me. Zip here too and I went from eating everything in sight to eating very sensibly (minus the wine and vodka lol)

Enjoy your wine lovely. x

LOL I'm still at work so no wine here (yet)!

ML I am sure you're right, I do love my wine and I'm sure it's down to that.

I'm sure it's no surprise to anyone here that I like wine to celebrate AND when I'm stressed....and I know it doesn't help - but that's life :)

I now don't have to work tomorrow (TG!) so am going to enjoy a night in, catching up with your posts and having a glass of red or two, as it's now cold enough.

Morning all

No wine last night - but I did have 12 hours' sleep! I had a big roast lamb dinner, then Orbs and I crashed out big time at 9pm - haven't slept like that for ages.

Nothing much planned today - a bit of cleaning up, and lots of reading - been downloading lots of freebies off Amazon, so now I really need to start reading some of them :)

Still not sure what to do about my woe - I was so fed up yesterday, I had a carby lunch (burger and chips!) and some sweet stuff last night (krispbread with butter and marmalade) and the scales have gone down a pound. So I guess I'm not very carb intolerant, although I do get the bloating from bread and pasta, etc. The Clarke book ihas just arrived, so maybe it will appeal, or maybe I'll follow ML's idea of going straight onto OWL.

The overall objective is that I want to lose weight, not so I can be a fashion model, but so my knees stop hurting and I can run for a bus without being checked into hospital :) I know what really sounds good is just eating really healthily, with lots of veg and fruit and yoghurt, so will think some more about it.

Bacon and eggs for brekkie :D

Mmmm it was lovely, Lisa - although I felt like a stunned mullet when I woke, and thought my back had fused into one piece :)

Have had brekkie and two cups of tea and feel much more human now. Just reading the Dr Clarke book - didn't realise but he's English so the recipes are all UK-focused. Will report back :)

Later - well it was very interesting to read, explained the basic facts about carbs and insulin much simpler than the Atkins book (imho), allows 40-60g carbs in the first stage and has some very common sense advice about preparation of veg and so on. There's lots of recipes in the diet book itself, but I also got the cookbook.

It's really no different to Atkins but with a higher carb level, although he suggests a max of 5 eggs a week. Nice to think I could have one slice of bread - although he prefers you "use" the carbs on an orange for the Vit C benefits.

Am going to give it a whirl from Monday - it means I can have my beloved tomatoes and other veg, and the occasional fruit and yoghurt.

hi all, wow that was a sleep and a half i have that sleep hangover you get when u have had too much (stunned mullet lol), didnt realise you were struggling so with atkins, why are you not having tomatoes? i go by the old atkins answer plan and tommies are fine on that, i dont overload on them but i have cheese and tomato sandwich with oopsie bread and i have cherry toms on my salad etc.

what is the clarke book? not heard of this one before?

made the cocoa bark today and ate half of it, was very very nice, that was the only thing i have been missing especially as its totm, NEEEEED CHOOCCOOLLATTEEEE...

I love the sound of cocoa bark but it seems really hard, don't know why I think that - might try later :)

Toms are high in carbs but I could seriously eat them with nearly every meal. It's not just that though, a whole range of things.

I must admit i have never actually limited myself on tomatoes, they were on the approved food list so i ate them lol

Evening Susie... that must have been so depressing about the lack of loss sweetie!!! Hugs... there's so much going on in your life that I would personally find it hard to concentrate on dieting - houses and jobs are the worst things to have to deal with.

Hopefully, job will be secure soon and house will sail through - then I'll be over with a paint brush and dungarees!! lol

Hope to see you soon... take care Susie ... xxx

Cocoa bark is literally the easiest thing I make, suzie-soo! 30g coconut oil. Microwave. Stir in up to a tbsp of cocoa until its all dissolved. Stir in a spoonful of cream and some liquid sweetener and stir it all up well. Stick in the freezer, take it out half an hour later and have a piece if chocolate!

Apart from the microwaving all you need to do is add and stir!

Hmm might have to get the Clarke book just to peek at his recipes if they're good ones. Let us know what you think! As I've said before I think a 40 - 50g carb level would be fine for you - maybe some days lower if you didn't want the carbs - and it would make you feel less restricted. Though maybe stick to gluten free or mana lupe type breads? I do think wheat is evilly bloaty. But it would allow you some leeway for yogurts and things as well as lots of veg - and it would mean you'd be able to cut carbs a bit more if you felt your body was getting too used to it.

I'd suggest calorie tracking if you're eating at a higher carb level too - not cutting them dramatically or anything, just be aware of your maintenance level and try not to go over that, as a guide.

Just some syggestions based on nothing more than gut feelings - might not suit you. Whatever you decide to do, the most important thing with any diet is for you to feel comfortable on it. Sticking to a diet is (even more of) a form of self torture otherwise.

Morning Susie, book sounds very interesting. I've decided to do same amount of carbs 40-50 a day and include everything as long as it's within my carb levels.

Here's to new eating plans.

What's up for today? x

Morning susie....congrats on the house like you ....any excuse for a celebratory glass of wine :) hope all the stressy stuff sorts itself out quickly and you can concentrate on much nicer things like decorating your new pad x
