Morning all

Don't know if it was being out in the cold for prolonged periods on Friday night and Saturday, but I feel like poo again, and could barely get out of bed this morning.

I'm sure it's a combination of all the flat/job stress and being rundown, but it reminded me that when I did induction first time round, a similar thing happened, and a simple cold dragged on for weeks, so I'm wondering if a lower carb level affects my immune system?

From today I'm going to do less low carb and introduce more veg and a little bit more fruit. Haven't done WI yet, but I know I've put on, so will sort myself out this week, try and get better and get back on to owl next week.

Hope you're all having a good day so far.

Sorry to hear you're still under the weather, Susie :(

Do you take Vitamin C? I know we get it from our veggies, but I seem to think you're a smoker (?) and that depletes Vitamin C, so perhaps you could do with a bit of a boost? Also, alcohol can depress the immune system, so might be worth giving that a miss until you're fully recovered?

Just a couple of thoughts, anyway. Hope you feel better soon xxx

I just popped out to see a local herbalist Scrummy, and he said exactly the same. He's a fan of low carb but agreed that it might have been too low carb at a time when a whole lot of other stressy things have been happening.

He looked at my eyeballs, soles of my feet, my scalp, you name it, and asked lots of questions re my cycle. He said he thinks I've been rundown for months because of my totm going crazy. He says I'm deficient in Vitamin C and iron, and he wants me to do a detox to cleanse my blood, so I'm cutting out all caffeine, dairy products and alcohol for seven days, cutting all processed meats like bacon, reducing red meat, and increasing green leafy vegetables and tomatoes. Soya is OK so i can still have Alpro Cream, but cheese isn't - luckily, I don't eat that much of it :)

I've also got lots of interesting drops to take, including dandelion, dong quai and passion flower, and I have vit C with zinc and a fortified iron tablet at home.

Am quite excited about it, I haven't tried doing a holistic healing thing for ages.

Low carb absolutely won't affect immune systems but low vitamin A will. Make sure your supplement has some of that. Low iron will also (and does make you feel run down) although for most people regular red meat and green leafies will sort out iron levels. (I say this as someone who has to have her vitamins A, D, potassium, iron and zinc pumped into her veins at the hospital to keep her levels hitting zero, but I don't have a normal system) But lots of totm troubles could definitely cause you imbalances. A good multivit will help I'm sure.

Iron wise there is a great drink I use as a supplement which I can't remember the name of right now but will check when I go to the fridge. It's all natural and full of goodness.

Just a note - you were probably told to take iron and vitamin c together as vitamin c increases iron absorption. It is however quite a hit to the guts. If you get cramps or tummy trouble then take them a few hours apart. Also don't take iron with calcium if you're taking any of that.

Hi, gosh you are really being hit with health problems and the moment, I hope the detox and vitamins help. Good luck

Sorry your feeling poo Susie. What carb level are you at? I felt crap at the weekend too. Kind of like a cold in my muscles, if there is such a thing?

Feel better soon. x

Home now - took an hour, because of an accident, but just had a good search through my vitamin cupboard and am going to take all the relevant ones to work so I make sure I take them! :)

I bought Vit A on the way home, and I already have one that combines Vit C and iron, so will start with those. Looked at the iron drinks but ouchie they were expensive.

Bed soon!

Glad you're home Susie, now you can relax.
I take about 10/12 supplements daily and find that putting them in a little pot at bed time, left by the water jug in the kitchen helps me remember to take them in the morning. It's the first thing I see when I put the kettle on.

Sounds like good planning to me Smiley - sadly I can't swallow any pills in the morning or I'd end up throwing them back up again, got an over active gag instinct thing (sorry if tmi :))

I'll save them for lunchtime, be a good excuse to drink lots of water.

OMG Susie, that is absolutely me and tablets, any time of the day though, I really really struggle!!!
Hope your new regime hits the spot for you xxx

LOL it's awful Brennie, isn't it!

Last night I was drinking some herbal tea, started coughing and whoosh it went all down me - I'll never be a graceful woman, no matter how hard I try :D

Floradix! It's good stuff. It does contain honey though so I haven't used it recently, no idea of the actual carb content. They do a pill form as well.

I hope all your experiments with supplementation pick you up a bit Susie. Might be an idea to get some bloods done and have your levels checked officially.

Morning all

Strange night's sleep, but feel a bit more perky this morning, hopefully down to the fact that I had a double dose of Vit C/iron.

Have brought all my vits into work and used old business card plastic boxes to divvy them up into daily doses - Vit A, Vit C + iron/choline/chromium/ginseng/co enzyme/alpha lipoic acid/l-carnitine - mostly stuff I had bought after reading Atkins' natural remedies book. Also got two tinctures from the herbalist - dandelion and dong quai - so will be very rattly for a while.

Will give it until the end of next week to see if there's an improvement. If not, I'll get my bloods done - but I instinctively feel that vits could well be the answer.

B - horrible LCM hot cereal (trying to use up stuff in the cupboard!) and soya decaff latte
L - Chicken with hot spinach salad (spinach, tomatoes, red pepper sauteed in lemon oil), and a dollop of pesto over
D - More chicken, with leftover sauteed cabbage and leek - with Alpro cream and chilli flakes

Day 3 - no alcohol, Day 1 no caffeine or dairy foods.
