Susie and Orbit's daily dribble

Morning lovely. I was horrified when the alarm went off, hit snooze but it seemed to go off again far too quickly lol. Have a good day, it's been manic here since I came back!!

Feel your pain re the alarm lol! Hope things have calmed down a bit now, I just keep looking at people vaguely when they ask me a question, and they quickly say "OH Ok, don't worry about it now, I'll come back later..." LOL

Morning Susie, I'm being dim, what's the thing with the high carb breakfast and the scales?

Hi Smiley - as Scrummie cleverly observed, my main problem with Atkins is my poor boredom threshold, and planning ahead too! It's harder at work now because there's no microwave and I can quickly get sick of cold bacon and eggs for brekkie (I don't eat first thing in the morning, just can't do it). If I allow myself more carbs, I can do porridge in my thermos mug and it's still warm. I'll see how it goes this week, with a daily WI to see what - if any - difference it makes. if it stalls me, I'll go back to 20-30g a day.

Morning, Susie!

So glad you've got your head back in the diet game - makes all the difference when your mind's in the right place.

What sort of carb level are you going for to begin with? From reading your diary this past year, I do think your worst enemy is boredom and that you're probably wise to keep things pretty flexible from the start. Having a few more food options has certainly helped me keep going with this for as long as I have.

Hope your first day back at work isn't too grim! xx

Thanks so much for taking the trouble to look through my diary moans, Scrummie, bless you xxx and you are right, it is boredom that makes me throw the baby out with the bath water, iyswim. So, like you, I thought I'd vary the carb level and make it a bit more flexible and keep doing it for longer if I can lose a steady 1lb a week.

Let's face it, I have SO much weight to lose, it was never going to be a quick journey! Yesterday was less than 20g, today will be about 50g. I'm also not going to do MFP, because I think I got a bit obsessed with it all last time and I need to make low carb eating just a normal everyday thing, and not fuss so much about every carb!

Afternoon Susie, the whole world's sleeping pattern seems to have gone rubbish, virtually every post on fb seems to be about lack of sleep - no fun is it :( xx

Nuts, eh?! Am seriously considering getting some Benylin on the way home!

I've been on a sleep bender for the last 3 nights and it's been lovely but I bet it doesn't last! I was talking to a friend with a sinus infection today and she said she got some Hoki ear candles off ebay and they were brilliant. She could feel the sinuses clearing! Have you tried them?

Ooooh how intriguing! I'll go look now.

But the problem isn't so much due to the nose because I'm still using the spray at night. I I think my sleep pattern is up the Khyber Pass because of regular nana naps for the last two weeks...i sleep for a couple of hours, then bam I'm awake for four...

Thanks for explaining re the high carb breakfast. Do you want some ideas for lower carb things you could take, or shall I be quiet now?!

Haha, this is just my jumbled mind working - the two statements weren't actually related I just remembered that I wanted to tell you about the Hoki thing lol. I think a lot of people have messed up sleep patterns for the same reason. As I'd already been back at work for 3 days last week I was extra tired by Friday night. I don't often nap during the day as I use the time that Trev is napping to catch up on crap TV :D

Hiya Susie, menu sounds gd today Hun. Really want the recipe pleas. Sympathy on the sleeping front, you gotta resist the day time naps x.

Just basing these on what dh takes to work. Soup in a flask, hard boiled eggs, cold fried parma ham (nice & crispy) with mayo & rocket or watercress. King cake with a tsp low sugar jam and cream. Slice of meatloaf with home made low sugar chutney. Salad with cheese & ham. Mozzarella, tomato, basil & balsamic vinegar. Shake/smoothie made the night before, put in a flask/water bottle.

Made courgette soup for work today, added stilton cheese and it was absolutely yummy. How can we get to see your recipes, they sound wonderful c

Thanks so much Smiley, they are all great contributions, especially when it gets a bit warmer.

However, I really like something hot in the morning, wonder if I could stuff bacon and eggs in my thermos mug? :D Got soup for tomorrow's lunch, but not sure I could face it for brekkie.

Actually, I might try an omelette and stuff that in the mug...oh damn got no eggs. Maybe I'll stop at the greasy spoon instead.

AND my foot hurts :(

You know me, always have to be complaining about something :D

And sorry about not writing a clearer brief on the Breakfast Challenge, but I know you'll come up with some lifesaving ideas (no pressure lol) :)

No, I fear I'm beat on a hot breakfast to take away with no means of heating it! I'd be manning up a bit and eating something cold but low carb!

Manning up? Me? :D

Had an idea though, I'll make some of Katie's yummy flax bread up and put bacon in the thermoflask - and hey ho bacon sarnies :D

Oh dear god that cheeseburger pie looks freakin amazing!! I'm going to have a busy week this week cooking :D xxx

Breakfast ideas cheese and mushroom omelette, scrambled egg with smoked salmon, flax meal porridge made with soya milk, :)

Morning all - and what a wonderful difference 8 hours' sleep makes! :) Have been doing sneaky WI's since Saturday and it's true, the porridge did slow me down, so will put that idea on the backburner for now.

Flax porridge, that's a good idea Sandra, and plop it in my overworked thermos mug :D I just can't find a nice recipe, do you have a tried and tested one that isn't like chewing cardboard?

Cheeseburger pie - here you go Smiley, I added 1/4 cabbage when I was cooking the mince and mushrooms, and it gave it a lovely flavour - http://www.minimins.com/atkins-recipes/49621-just-recipes.html#post740734

9g carbs without the cabbage for the whole thing.

Today -
B - bacon and eggs at the local cafe
L - courgette soup and cheeseburger pie - I grazed on 1/2 of it cold all afternoon yesterday (but it is yummiest warmed through)
D - more soup, followed by chicken and peppers

Have a fab day!
